1. Overview

Video Checker (at legitly.com/video-checker.html) is a free tool that checks whether a video carries Content Credentials — and reads them back to you in plain language. This page is subject to our Terms of Service.

2. The Technology: C2PA Content Credentials

Content Credentials are based on a new standard called C2PA, which seals a tamper-evident record into a video — capturing who made it, when, and every edit since. Legitly reads that record and tells you plainly what is there, so you can understand a video’s origin and edit history.

3. Free Check and Sample Certificate

Checking a video for Content Credentials is free. You can also view a sample certificate on the site to see what a full Certificate of Authenticity looks like before purchasing one of your own.

4. Paid Certificate of Authenticity ($0.50)

After you add your video and check whether credentials exist, you have the option to purchase your own certificate. Legitly will charge 50 cents ($0.50) and generate a Certificate of Authenticity containing the captured metadata from your video.

5. Disclaimer

Video Checker reports the presence and contents of Content Credentials as read from the file provided. It is an informational tool: the absence of credentials does not by itself prove a video is fake, and their presence is not a guarantee of truthfulness. Results reflect the data embedded in the file.
