1. Overview

Ancient Text (AncientText™, at ancient-text.legitly.com) is Legitly’s initiative to help decode the ancient world. It is a free, community-powered archive of ancient writing, built from images contributed by people everywhere. This page is subject to our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

2. How It Works

Anyone can contribute by dragging and dropping photographs of ancient writing — inscriptions, manuscripts, tablets, carvings, and more — into the archive. Each contribution helps build a shared, global library of ancient script for study and interpretation.

3. Community-Powered Decoding

The goal is collaborative decipherment. Contributed images help train and inform our AI and, just as importantly, give the broader community material to examine together — so that researchers, enthusiasts, and everyday contributors can help work out what the ancients were trying to say.

4. Paid Archive Access

Alongside the free contribution experience, Ancient Text offers a paid back-end that lets users browse and study the imported images coming in from contributors around the world, and participate in the decoding effort in greater depth. Details and pricing for paid access are presented within the tool.

5. Contributions and License

By contributing an image, you represent that you have the right to share it, and you grant Legitly a license to host, display, and use the contributed image within the archive and for the purpose of decoding and improving the Services. Do not upload images you do not have the right to share. See our Terms of Service for the full terms governing user contributions.

6. Disclaimer

Ancient Text is a collaborative research and archival tool. Interpretations and decodings are community- and AI-assisted and are provided for informational and educational purposes without warranty of scholarly accuracy.
